I grew up here. My father was a Psychiatrist from Sri-Lanka. We lived in the doctors accommodation for some years. I’d like to know what is recorded of this.
Hello Chrisantha, thanks for getting in touch. I’m afraid I’m not aware of any records relating to the doctors accommodation, but if you have any memories of living there, it would be interesting to hear them.
I had family here I’d like to know if there’s any photos of patients kept
Hello, thanks for leaving a message. There are some surviving photographs of patients that date back to the opening of the hospital in 1932. The practice of taking photographs of patients on admission was gradually phased out during this time. It’s likely that the photographs of these patients were not taken as Cefn Coed but were taken from a previous hospital admission at Talgarth, and so date back to the 1920s or earlier. There a few more informal photographs of patients in the West Glamorgan Archives. These include some of patients in the occupational therapy rooms. You can see a few images of the early patient portraits that appeared in the exhibition if you click on the ‘Contents’ tab and then ‘2019 exhibition’. Hope that helps.
